Asia Cup 2023

Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan’s pace duo of Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah are unlikely to be unavailable for the rest of the Asia Cup 2023 due to injuries suffered during the IND vs PAK match. This setback poses a significant challenge for Pakistan, especially as they prepare to face Sri Lanka after a heavy defeat to India on Monday.

Haris Rauf & Naseem Shah to miss matches

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah are confirmed to be absent from the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 clash between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Their availability for the final, should Pakistan qualify, remains uncertain. It’s worth noting that Haris Rauf is presently the leading wicket-taker in the Asia Cup 2023. During Sunday’s match, the 29-year-old experienced discomfort in his right flank and did not take part on the reserve day.

In the meantime, Naseem Shah, a key part of Pakistan’s bowling attack, had to exit the field during the 49th over of India’s innings due to a shoulder injury. Consequently, neither of the two players could participate in Pakistan’s unsuccessful chase, resulting in India’s convincing 228-run victory.

Asia Cup 2023 performance of both bowlers

In the ongoing Asia Cup, Haris Rauf has been a crucial performer for Pakistan, featuring in four matches and claiming a total of nine wickets at an impressive bowling average of 13.33. On the other hand, Naseem Shah, another valuable asset to Pakistan’s bowling lineup, has participated in seven matches during the tournament. He has secured seven wickets with a bowling average of 20.00. Both bowlers have made valuable contributions to Pakistan’s campaign in the Asia Cup.

Reports indicate that the choice to prevent Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah from batting was a precautionary step. Pakistan’s team management is taking no risks in preparation for the World Cup 2023 and has summoned reserve bowlers to address the situation.
