Asia Cup 2023: Discussions surrounding the hosting of the Asia Cup have been intense in recent weeks, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have held firm on their positions. Despite the scheduled hosting of the Asia Cup by Pakistan in September 2023, the proposed hybrid model, which would have allowed the Indian team to play their matches outside of Pakistan, has reportedly been rejected as well. Now, as per the reports, BCCI is planning for a new 5-Nation tournament.

Asia Cup 2023 hosting in trouble
Multiple sources indicate that if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) continues to insist on the hybrid model, there is a possibility that the Asia Cup might not take place in 2023. The PCB has outright rejected the notion of holding the event in another country, including Sri Lanka, which reportedly expressed interest in hosting, and the UAE, which is considered a potential candidate.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) firmly rejected any alternative proposals for hosting the tournament outside of their home country. Their stance is rooted in the belief that unresolved issues now could create complications when they host the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Numerous sources have indicated that a significant decision regarding the Asia Cup dispute is imminent.

BCCI preparing 5-Nation tournament
It is worth mentioning that two weeks ago, Jay Shah stated that the council has been awaiting input from participating countries to arrive at a final decision regarding the venue for the Asia Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made preparations for the possible cancellation of the Asia Cup. Reports suggest that the board has been devising plans for a fresh five-nation tournament to fill the vacant window left by the Asia Cup, in the event of its future cancellation.
