Asia Cup called off due to COVID surge in Sri Lanka

The Asia Cup T20 tournament which was scheduled in the month of July in Sri Lanka has been postponed indefinetely due the sudden surge of COVID-19 in South Asia.

“Due to prevailing situation, it will not be possible to play the tournament in June this year,” Ashley de Silva, the Sri Lanka Cricket chief executive, told media on Wednesday.

The tournament was originally scheduled for September 2020 but couldn’t happen due to lack of preparedness and COVID surge and later it was moved to this year.

The pandemic has taken a played a spilsport yet again after months of good cricket world wide. As of now the tournament is likely to be set up for next year if things kept on improving.

However, a formal statement from Asian Cricket Council is yet to come.

But interestingly, India is set to tour Sri Lanka in the month of July for T20Is and ODI series.
