Asian Athletics Championship: The fifth and final day of the Asian Athletics Championship was once again filled with medals for India. It was one of the most successful days in terms of medals.
India bagged 13 medals on the final day including eight silver and five bronze medals. This really puts athletes preparation for Asian Games 2023 in perspective and we can be hopeful for that as well.
India equaled their best-ever medal tally record of 27 medals. The last time India won 27 medals was in 2017 but with 9 golds and six silvers. Indian athletes finished Thailand with 6 golds and 9 silvers.
Silver Linings
Jyoti Yarraji won her second medal in the competition after picking up silver in the women’s 200m final. DP Manu won the silver medal in javelin throw with a throw of 81.01 meters in his final throw.
Abha Khatua and Manpreet Kaur won silver and bronze medals in shot put respectively. Abha Khatua equaled the shot put national record. Indian athletes won silver in both men’s and women’s 800m races.
Parul Chaudhary won silver in the 5000m steeplechase, making this her second medal in the tournament. Priyanka Goswami won silver in women’s race walk event with the timing of 1:34:24.
The Gold Medalist
India won six gold medals in the championships. Jyothi Yarraji finished first in Women’s 100m hurdles and Abdulla Aboobacker was the winner in Men’s triple jump to claim the first two golds for India.
Parul Chaudhary was unbeaten in her Women’s 3000m steeplechase to claim the gold while Ajay Kumar Saroj won the Men’s 1500m race. Whereas no one was able to touch Tajinderpal Singh Toor in Men’s shot put event.
The team of Rajesh Ramesh, Aishwarya Kailash Mishra, Amoj Jacob, Subha Venkatesan won the gold for India in Mixed 4x400m relay.
