Asian Games 2023: After fending off a last-second attack from their Malaysian opponents in the final here on Thursday, India’s Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu took home the squash mixed doubles gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. India has won 20 gold medals overall in Hangzhou. Prannoy Haseena Sunil Kumar, an Indian badminton player, made history earlier today by winning the men’s singles badminton quarterfinal match and securing a medal.
Indians Stage Comeback to Secure Squash Gold in Nail-Biting Match
In 35 minutes, the Indians defeated Aifa Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal by scores of 11-10, 11-10. Before Harinder and Dipika improved their game to win the match, the Malaysian team scored seven straight points to move from 3-9 to 10-9.
Dipika Pallikal’s Remarkable Asian Games Journey
The Indians appeared to lose focus while cruising to an easy victory in the first game and conceded simple points in the second. In what is probably going to be her final appearance at the continental championship, Dipika won two medals: a bronze in the women’s team competition and a gold in the mixed doubles. Thus, during the course of four Asian Games editions, the 32-year-old has collected a total of six medals, including one gold, one silver, and four bronze ones.
