Asian Games 2023: India claimed its inaugural medal at the Asian Games 2023 as the women’s 10m Air Rifle Team secured the silver in Hangzhou, China, marking a promising start to Sunday morning’s events, with Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ashi Chouksey comprising the triumphant trio responsible for India’s achievement.

India secures first medal at Asian Games 2023

In the women’s 10m air rifle team event, India secured the silver medal with a combined score of 1886, while China clinched the gold with a remarkable score of 1896.6. Mongolia claimed the bronze medal with a total score of 1880.

The Chinese team, consisting of Han Jiayu, Huang Yuting, and Wang Zhilin, not only won the gold but also shattered the five-year-old Asian record with their outstanding performance. Han Jiayu also established a new Asian qualification record with a total of 634.1 points, and all three Chinese shooters qualified for the final round.

Ramita and Mehuli Ghosh of India earned their spots in the individual finals with scores of 631.9 and 630.8, respectively. Notably, this accomplishment holds special significance as team medals have made a comeback to the Asian Games after a gap of two editions.

China starts with gold

The Indian team’s achievement marked the commencement of India’s medal tally at the Hangzhou Asian Games, and it holds particular significance as it was India’s inaugural medal at the 19th Asian Games. This silver medal win has set a promising tone for India’s campaign in the Asian Games 2023, instilling hopes and aspirations for additional victories in the days ahead. Meanwhile, the host nation, China, secured the first gold medal of the continental sporting event on Sunday through Zou Jiaqi and Qiu Xiuping’s triumph in the lightweight women’s doubles sculls in rowing.
