Asian Games 2023: The Asian Games in 2023 have proven to be a momentous occasion for India, as the nation’s athletes have displayed their exceptional skills and achieved an impressive medal count. On October 7, 2023, India reached a significant milestone by securing a total of 100 medals, comprising 25 gold, 35 silver, and 40 bronze.
India secures back-to-back gold
In the early hours of Saturday, the Indian contingent achieved a remarkable feat by securing three consecutive gold medals in archery and women’s kabaddi, thereby elevating India’s total medal count to 100. Archer Jyothi Vennam and Praveen Ojas clinched gold in their respective individual compound events, while the women’s kabaddi team emerged victorious in a thrilling final match against Chinese Taipei, contributing to India’s century of medals.
India reached a historic milestone of 100 medals at the ongoing Asian Games when the women’s kabaddi team secured a thrilling 26-25 victory over Chinese Taipei in the final, earning a gold medal in Hangzhou, China, on Saturday. At present, India has secured 22 medals in shooting and 29 in track and field events. Additionally, there have been 5 medals in rowing and 3 in sailing, with several more medals obtained in various other disciplines during the Asian Games 2023.
How did India fare in other sports?
The Indian men’s hockey team’s achievement is noteworthy as they secured their fourth Asian Games title with a convincing 5-1 victory over Japan in the final, adding another gold to India’s overall medal count. Furthermore, in individual events, numerous female athletes have brought pride to the nation by earning gold medals, including Sift Kaur Samra, Palak Gulia, Parul Chaudhary, Annu Rani, Parveen Hooda, Lovlina Borgohain, and Harmilan Bains.
The Indian women’s cricket team also made history by clinching a gold medal in their debut appearance at the Asian Games 2023. In the realm of archery, Ojas Pravin Deotale and Jyothi Vennam secured gold medals in the men’s compound event and women’s individual compound event, respectively. Another commendable performance came from the Indian athletics squad, which amassed a total of 29 medals, including six gold, 14 silver, and nine bronze.
The Indian women’s recurve archery team earned a bronze medal, and Vishal Kewat reached the final in Canoe slalom. Additionally, the Indian women’s Kabaddi team secured a place in the final by winning the semifinal against Nepal. In addition to these achievements, numerous athletes from various sports disciplines have contributed to India’s impressive medal tally, with notable mentions including weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, badminton star PV Sindhu, and archery world champions Aditi Gopichand Swami and Ojas Pravin Deotale.
