Asian Games 2023: Yashasvi Jaiswal made a remarkable start to his 2023 Asian Games journey, representing India in a quarterfinal match against Nepal, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field. The young Indian opener achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first-ever centurion for India at the multi-sport tournament, and he also broke a recently set T20I record by Shubman Gill.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record-breaking ton
Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved a historic feat by becoming the first Indian to score a century at the Asian Games. His remarkable innings of 100 runs from just 49 balls featured 8 boundaries and 7 sixes. At the age of 21 years and 279 days, Jaiswal also earned the distinction of being India’s youngest centurion in T20I cricket, surpassing Shubman Gill’s previous record of 23 years and 146 days when he scored a T20I century against New Zealand earlier this year.
Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his century in T20I cricket in just 48 balls, which is now the joint fourth-fastest century for India in this format. He shares this record with Suryakumar Yadav, who also achieved a century in 48 balls. Among senior Indian batsmen, Rohit Sharma leads the list with a century in 35 balls, followed by Suryakumar Yadav (45 balls) and KL Rahul (46 balls) in the top three positions in terms of fastest centuries in T20Is for India.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the second left-handed batsman to score a century for India in T20I cricket, with the first being Suresh Raina, who achieved this feat against South Africa in 2010. Additionally, Jaiswal is the second player to record a score of 50 or more for India in multi-sport events. Amay Khurasiya was the first to achieve this in the 1998 Commonwealth Games when India played against Canada.
