Gaikwad will be leading a young Indian squad in the upcoming Asian Games 2023. When asked about his leadership role, he stated that it will vary from person to person. For him, leadership is to give maximum confidence to the ten players who are playing.
He wants to get in their shoes and think about how they are thinking. It is important for him to stay in the moment as they can always look back at the things they did wrong after the match. For him, captaincy is about giving freedom to the players on the pitch.
