Asian Para Games 2023: Ankur Dhama and Sundar Gurjar Singh made history on Wednesday during the 2023 Asian Para Games. Indian athletes have been brilliant during this campaign and are continuing to shine.
It was a World Record Shattering day for the Indian athletes as they broke several records. Sumit Antil broke the record in the Javelin F64 category while Sundar Singh Gurjar shattered the World Record in the Men’s F46 category.
It was a clean sweep by India as they took all three medals in the Men’s F54/55/56 discus throw event. Indian athletes also won all three medals in the Men’s F46 Javelin throw event.
Historic Day For India
Sundar Singh Gurjar set a new record in the men’s F46 javelin throw as he sent his spear to a distance of 68.60m. On the other hand, reigning champion Sumit Antil also clinched the gold medal in the F64 Javelin Throw event.
Ankur Dhama became the first Indian to win two gold medals in a single edition of the Asian Para Games. He had won a gold medal in the men’s T11 5000m race on Tuesday and clinched the top spot in the men’s T11 1500m race with a time of 4:27.70 on Wednesday.
Haney and Nimisha Suresh Chakkungalparambil clinched the gold medals in the Men’s F37/38 javelin throw and women’s T47 long jump respectively. Rakshitha Raju and Killaka Lalitha won gold and silver in the T11 1550m event respectively.
Climbing The Ladder
India finished the third day of the Asian Para Games 2023 in sixth position with 64 medals which includes 15 golds, 20 silvers, and 29 bronze medals. China is at the top with 285 medals followed by Iran with 70 medals.
India can climb further up in the rankings as Uzbekistan only has 2 more gold medals as compared to India.
