Asif Ali: Just prior to the start of the T20 World Cup 2022, Pakistan is dealing with an injury worry. Asif Ali, a middle-order batsman for them, collided with his knee during the tri-series final match against New Zealand at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
Ali attempted to chase the ball down to the boundary after left-handed batter Devon Conway creamed Mohammad Wasim Jr. through the area of the cover point. His efforts were ineffective since Conway scored a four while the ball sped to the boundary.
Asif attempted to execute a dive to preserve the boundary, but his knee became stuck on the ground, adding more to the injury. The physio then arrived to check on Asif, who was lying on the ground in some discomfort.
Asif Ali was ultimately forced to leave the ground. It is still unknown if Asif can get fit with Pakistan’s first game against India at the MCG less than 10 days away. In the T20 format, Asif Ali has been a crucial component of Pakistan’s middle-order batting.
Team India facing same issues
Shaheen Shah Afridi just overcame his knee injury from earlier this year, which saved Pakistan from a serious injury concern before the World Cup. Shaheen was unable to participate in a few bilateral series as well as the Asia Cup 2022 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently declared the left-arm pacer to be operational.
In their opener match, Pakistan will face their arch-rivals India on 23rd October. However, India too is dealing with its’ injury woes as Bumrah and Deepak Chahar were ruled out due to injuries. Though, Indian players have already played two practise matches and will play two more with each against Australia and New Zealand.
