Victoria State Prime Minister Daniel Andrews said on Monday that his government is in talks with Cricket Australia and Tennis Australia to allow spectators to visit the stadium at the two top sporting events in the city.

These top sports competitions include the Boxing Day Test against India and the Australian Open. There is speculation that Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) may be deprived of hosting the annual Boxing Day Test, as Victoria State is highly affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Victoria has been facing lockdown since July, and carry 75% of country’s COVID-19 patients and 90% of deaths of the country. There have been more than 26000 infection cases in Australia while more than 800 people have died.

Andrews said during the daily press conference, “We have to see what the safe number of viewers. At this time it will be very difficult to say about the numbers. It is too early for us to decide what will be the number of viewers. We want to see more and more people there, provided it is safe. ‘
