Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023: Former Australia Legend Comes Down Heavily On The Team; Slams Aussie Captains With ‘Stupidity’ Remarks; Read

Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023

Former Australia legend Greg Chappell has slammed Australian captains and blamed them for letting Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023 series slip away.

Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023: Ashes series might have been over, but the rivalry never dies. It is the biggest cricket series in the world. And how former legends and even politicians get involved in the series is amazing.

The Ashes 2023 series tied in the end, with England making an amazing comeback after going 2-0 down. You can say that the English side played brilliantly, and that is true, but former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell thinks differently.

He thinks that Australia is the one that let the series slip away after playing brilliantly in the first two matches. He also blamed the Australian captains for the results. Former Australian legend thinks that the reluctance of the captains has resulted in this.

Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023: Stupidity In Captaincy

Chappell stated that it is stupid of the captain to save boundaries rather than easy singles. He thinks that giving away cheap and easy singles is just plain stupidity. And not setting an attacking field position is exactly doing that.

He further stated that giving away a couple of boundaries rather than six easy singles every over is far better. And when a player can get six runs in an over without much trouble in the early innings, it gets harder for the bowling side.

“In my opinion, the stupidity in some captaincy is they want to save boundaries, but they’re quite happy to give up singles. You can’t give a good batter easy singles, particularly early in their innings; you’ve got to be trying to get them out.” Chappel Stated.

Lack Of Spinners

Chappell further stated that the lack of wrist spinners since Shane Warne is also a reason for this fall in quality. He thinks the increase in limited-overs cricket has created a notion that wrist spinners are expensive.

He further thinks that Marnus Labushagne should bowl longer spells for the team. The Australian legend further stated that you can’t give Marnus just one over before the break. Try and give him more overs to get a wicket in Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023.

He ended his statement with, “I’ve always felt you’re better off using a wrist spinner as a change bowler than a finger spinner because there’s a lot more variety, and you get the odd really good delivery from a wrist spinner.”
