Keshav Maharaj was called to the crease as a result, and he decided to chase down the Australian assault. As the former reached fifty, Maharaj and Harmer partnered for a vital 75-run partnership. Josh Hazlewood ended the spinner’s tenure at the crease by subsequently removing Harmer. Eventually, with a 220-run advantage over the Proteas, the hosts forced the follow-on when South Africa lost their final three wickets for only three runs.
As South Africa was 75 to 2 at the time, Hazlewood cut Klassen’s stay short after 35 minutes. As the visitors scored 106 for the loss of two wickets, Temba Bavuma stepped out to make sure there was no last-minute drama.
Australia won the series 2-0, and their next match in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be against the Indian side. Australia improved its chances of reaching the ICC World Test Championship 2021–23 after defeating South Africa 2-0 in Sydney on Sunday.
Australia leads the WTC points table
Australia increased its point total to 136 with 10 victories, a defeat, and four draws so far, giving it a points percentage (PCT) of 75.55. After 13 games, South Africa, who had been in second place before the series began, had dropped to fourth with a PCT of 48.71.
All four teams are still mathematically in the running for the last two berths, with Sri Lanka (53.93) and India (58.93) holding onto the second and third spots, respectively.
