ICC Ranking: Australia regained their top position in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings by defeating South Africa in the second match of the three-game ODI series, displacing Pakistan after they had briefly claimed the top spot in the Men’s ODI Team Rankings.

Australia clinches the top spot

Australia has clinched the top spot in the ODI rankings, becoming the new world No.1 ODI team. They achieved this position following a resounding victory over South Africa in the second ODI of their five-match series. Fueled by centuries from Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner, along with disciplined bowling, Australia secured a convincing 123-run win against South Africa at Bloemfontein’s Mangaung Oval on Saturday night.

David Warner made a triumphant comeback to form by surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries by an opener in international cricket. Marnus Labuschagne, filling in for the injured Cameron Green, delivered another match-winning performance, maintaining his appeal to the selectors for the World Cup. On the bowling front, Adam Zampa claimed four wickets, with the pacers also contributing with valuable wickets, ultimately dismissing the hosts for a total of 269.

India at third spot

This victory led Australia back to the summit of the ODI world rankings, where they currently hold 121 rating points. Pakistan closely follows with 120 rating points, securing the second position, while India stands at No.3 with 114 ratings. The battle for the World No.1 ODI spot has been ongoing between Australia and Pakistan, with Australia initially holding the top spot before Pakistan claimed it after defeating Afghanistan in an ODI series. However, Australia reclaimed the pinnacle position following their consecutive ODI wins against South Africa.
