The Test series between Australia and South Africa has been postponed due to the sudden surge of COVID-19 in South Africa.
Australia were scheduled to tour South Africa later this month, these were also the major part of the mega World Test Championship for the Australian cricket team. Australian team now on the back foot after the series lost against the young Indian team.
Cricket Australia’s interim chief executive Nick Hockley reckons that the tour poses “unacceptable” risk.
“Following extensive due diligence with medical experts, it has become clear that traveling from Australia to South Africa at this current time poses an unacceptable level of health and safety risk to our players, support staff and the community,” Hockley said in a statement.
“We acknowledge the significant amount of work by CSA in planning for the tour, during which we made it clear that CA was prepared to take on additional cost and effort to make the series happen.”
Meanwhile, the board has cleared that the series is only postponed not cancelled. Of the series gets cancelled then chances of Australian team reaching the finals of World Test Championship will totally vain.
