Australian Open: India’s Tennis ace Sania Mirza has been crowned as runner-up along with Rohan Bohapanna in the mixed doubles category at the Australian Open. After a stellar performance in the tournament, the duo suffered a straight sets defeat by the Brazilian pair of Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos. Stefani-Matos pair emerged triumphant beating Sania, and Bopanna 7-6, 6-2 in the final.
After the game ended, Sania was greeted by a fully packed stadium at Melbourne Park to boost her energy level. But Sania, got emotional during the presentation ceremony of the event.

“I’m still gonna play a couple more tournaments but the journey of my professional career started in Melbourne. It started in Melbourne in 2005 when I played Serena Williams in the third round here as an 18-year-old,” said Sania Mirza.

Sania’s career in books
In her terrific career, Sania featured in 11 grand slam titles and won 6 out of them. She has won 43 doubles titles in total and has been ranked the WTA No.1 for 91 weeks in the women’s doubles category.
She is set to play her final game during next month’s WTA 1000 event in Dubai.
