Axar Patel: In a gruelling day of play for the Indian bowlers, Axar Patel emerged as the hero who shattered Travis Head’s pursuit of a historic century in the high-scoring Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023’s 4th Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The final day of the intense battle between Rohit Sharma’s men and Australia saw the visitors gain momentum through crucial innings from their star batsmen, Head and Marnus Labuschagne, in Ahmedabad.

Travis Head, who stepped up to replace David Warner as Usman Khawaja’s opening partner in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, played a crucial inning of 90 runs off 163 balls in the second innings, which proved to be a game-changer. Despite his impressive performance, Head fell short of a magnificent century, as Axar Patel dismissed him with a magnificent delivery in the 60th over. The star batsman was understandably devastated after being dismissed by Axar’s unplayable ball.
Axar Patel not only dismissed the important wicket of Travis Head but also etched his name in the record books. The all-rounder surpassed Ravindra Jadeja to become the fastest Indian bowler to claim 50 Test wickets in terms of the number of balls bowled, achieving this feat in just 2205 balls. Axar bowled 28 overs and managed to take a solitary wicket of Head in the second innings. Despite Axar’s efforts, Australia ended up posting a score of 175-2 in 78.1 overs, resulting in the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ending in a draw at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Axar Patel played a vital role in the series decider against Australia by contributing valuable innings of 79 runs off 113 balls. As a lower-order batsman, Axar emerged as the second-highest run-scorer for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He scored a total of 264 runs in four matches against Australia, showcasing his all-round abilities.
