Babar Azam Achieves Rare Distinction, Becomes Worst White Ball Captain Ever? Check

After their loss against United States, Babar Azam achieved an unwanted record that might made him one of the worst white ball captains ever.

Babar Azam

After their loss against United States, Babar Azam achieved an unwanted record that might made him one of the worst white ball captains ever.

When Babar Azam reclaimed the captaincy from Shaheen Afridi in T20Is, many experts were against that move. It was not because these experts doubted his capability as a player, rather they were unsure of the role of Babar as a skipper.

Especially in white ball cricket, Babar has a very dodgy record. He has won the most number of T20i matches as a captain, but when you try and look into it further, something else unfolds.

The USA team shocked the Pakistan squad as they defeated them in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. But this is not the first giant killing that Pakistan has been a victim of ICC tournaments, in fact as a skipper Babar has a very forgettable record in these cups.

Babar Azam Unwanted Record

Last night’s loss against the United States was another black spot in Babar Azam’s white ball captaincy record. Especially in ICC tournaments, he has lost three times to a nation far weaker and very much underdeveloped in terms of cricket.

He lost to Zimbamwe in the T20I WC 2022 and it was a miracle that Pakistan was able to reach the final of the tournament. He lost to Afghanistan in the recent ODI World Cup 2023 and was knocked out in the group stage.

And now he lost to an associate nation in The USA and it has made Pakistan’s way to Super 8 very tough. The cherry on top was Pakistan’s loss against Ireland right before the T20 World Cup 2024. Which had made him the first-ever captain that has lost against these four sides.

Tough Road In T20 World Cup

This loss has dimmed down the hopes of Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The USA has won 2 out of their 2 matches and now has to win just 1 to qualify for the Super 8. On the other hand, Pakistan has to win all their remaining matches to make sure they qualify and their next match is against India who are one of the favorites to win the cup.

That India Vs Pakistan match is well sought out in both nations and the record India holds against Pakistan is immaculate. So from here, it will be an uphill battle for Pakistan just to survive in the tournament.
