Babar Azam: On Sunday, England and Pakistan will face off in an effort to win their respective teams’ second T20 World Cup championship. Both captains were present at the pre-match press conference before the final encounter at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, but Babar Azam was not happy with some of the questions that were asked of him.
Questions regarding the IPL and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s tweet following India’s 10-wicket loss to England on Thursday significantly annoyed the skipper.

Reporter stuns Babar Azam with an unexpected question
During the press conference, a journalist questioned Babar about whether his Pakistani team had ever considered the advantages of competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and whether they would do so in the near future if given the chance.
“Talk about the benefits of playing the IPL, is that something you feel would have helped you and your team and is that something you have any hope for in the future?” the reporter asked. However, Babar looked stunned after the question was asked.
The Pakistani captain then stared at the Pakistani media manager who was seated to his right and said that they would only be taking questions regarding the World Cup final. The Pakistani media manager said as an uneasy-looking Babar sat there, “We are taking questions on the World Cup final at the moment.”
Pakistani players were banned from IPL in 2009
For those who are unaware, Pakistani players have not competed in the IPL since 2009. Although they took part in the league’s inaugural season, the political tensions between the two countries led to Pak players’ exclusion from the prestigious league.
An enormous drama previously broke out when BCCI secretary and ACC president Jay Shah revealed that India would not be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2023. Following this, PCB released a statement suggesting they would not be travelling to India for the ODI World Cup in 2023.
