Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, has urged his squad to come together as they enter a crucial phase of matches, which includes the upcoming Asia Cup and Cricket World Cup 2023. While gearing up for these significant tournaments, Babar emphasised his team’s focus on approaching each series separately. He also acknowledged the rise of Afghanistan as a strong cricketing force in the process.
What did Babar Azam say?
Babar highlighted his main concentration on getting ready for the imminent major tournaments i.e the Asia Cup and the World Cup. He said, “We are focused in our preparations as we have big events in the Asia Cup and the World Cup coming up, The Afghanistan team is on the rise and they have some good bowlers Echoing his encouraging sentiments to his team, Babar urged Pakistan to always maintain belief in their abilities, ensuring to apply full efforts on the field. “My message has always been to believe in yourself and make sure that you give your hundred percent in the field.”
After securing victory in the Test series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan is set to engage in a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, commencing on August 22. Babar maintained a positive outlook regarding the momentum they acquired from their recent triumph over Sri Lanka and conveyed his enthusiasm to continue advancing on that front. He also recognized the new inclusions in the team and conveyed his best intentions for the challenges that lie ahead.
He stated, “We enter this series with good momentum following our Test series win here and we are eager to build on it. We have a few new faces in the side and I wish them good luck for the challenges ahead. Most of the boys have been playing cricket in different leagues, but when you don the Pakistan star, it is a different feeling altogether.”

New inclusions in Pakistan squad
Ahead of the series against Afghanistan, Pakistan unveiled an 18-player squad that includes fresh face Tayyab Tahir and marks the return of Faheem Ashraf. Following his strong display in the Test matches, Saud Shakeel has the chance to exhibit his skills in the shorter format. Babar conveyed his excitement about the newly formed squad, underlining the significance of team cohesion throughout the crucial three-month stretch of international matches.
Babar specifically highlighted Tayyab Tahir’s remarkable performance in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup and the recent series in Sri Lanka. Additionally, he praised Shakeel’s swift evolution into a modern-style batsman, which serves as a positive indicator for Pakistan’s cricketing future.
