The wrestlers protest has been going bigger in the last few days, top Indian wrestlers have been protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) over alleged sexual assault. Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia has stated on Saturday that there will be no protest on Sunday as the wrestlers have “full trust” on the government.
‘Full trust on government’
“We will wait for the time given to us, the one month’s time. We will wait for justice and then decide what to do next. We have full trust in our government that justice will be done. No protest is taking place tomorrow. Nothing such is happening,” Bajrang cleared.
WFI suspends all ongoing operations
Late on Friday night, the aggrieved grapplers called off their protest after getting assurances from the government that their grievances would be addressed, the first step of which was the stepping aside of under-fire WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Meanwhile, WFI has also decided to suspend all ongoing activities with immediate effect till the time oversight committee is formally appointed and takes over the functioning.
“The Ministry of Sports has communicated to the Wrestling Federation of India on Saturday that in view of the Government’s decision to appoint an Oversight Committee to investigate the various allegations raised by athletes against the Federation, WFI will suspend all ongoing activities with immediate effect, unless the Oversight Committee is formally appointed and takes over the day to day functioning of WFI,” the Sports ministry said in a statement.
