Bangladesh vs India: Why visitors were awarded 5 runs in first innings of Day 2?

Team India resumed their innings on the second Day of the first Test match vs Bangladesh from overnight 278/6 and ended their innings at 404. India lost Shreyas Iyer early on Day 2 who scored 86 runs. But later Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav took Indian batting to a commanding position.

But one incident caught everyone’s attention, visitors were awarded five penalty runs for Bangladesh’s mistake in the field.

It happened in the 112th over of the Indian batting innings where Ashwin got an edge off the second ball that went past the first slip to the third-man region. The fielder threw the ball toward the keepers’ end, but it ended up hitting the helmet placed behind the stumps. The on-field umpire Michael Gough noticed it and immediately awarded five penalty runs to the tourists.
