BBL 2022: Sydney Thunder defeated Hobart Hurricanes by 62 runs in the 22nd game of the ongoing 12th season of the Big Bash League, held in Albury. With this win, Sydney Thunder moved up to second place on the points table after winning three straight games. Until the halfway point of their innings, the Hurricanes, who now hold the record for the Top Four most successful BBL run-chases, appeared all set to beat their own record, but a middle-order failure resulted in their third loss of the year.
Matthew Wade goes berserk
At the Lavington Sports Oval this afternoon, Wade was playing in a totally different level. Wade scored 22 runs off his first five balls after coming to bat at No. 3 in the third over and his openers had only managed to score 7 runs off the first 13 balls.
Wade didn’t knock three straight sixes off Thunder pacer Brendan Doggett on Saturday, but his three ramp shots for sixes in one over spoke highly of his abilities and his confidence in them. Following the powerplay, Wade then launched an assault on ST all-rounder Daniel Sams, welcoming him with three sixes in his first over, to score a stroke-filled half-century in 19 balls.

Hobart skipper Matthew Wade took the lead early on to score 67 (30) at a strike rate of 223.33 after serving a one-match ban. As the visitors easily passed the 100-run mark in the 10th over, Wade, who had two fours and six sixes, reached his 24th T20 and 17th BBL half-century. However, Hurricanes were bowled out for 166 in 17 overs due to the ineffective contributions of players like Tim David (25), James Neesham (13), Asif Ali (7), and Shadab Khan (1).
