Gautam Gambhir: has impressed everyone with his team management in IPL 2024 so far. Under his guidance, KKR has topped the group stage table and is also the favorite to win the tournament as well.
Not only that, but his impressive stint with Lucknow Super Giants for the past 2 seasons also gives him an impeccable CV. And it looks like, all these seasons are finally bearing some fruit for Gambhir.
Various sources have stated that BCCI is considering Gautam Gambhir as the next head coach for the Indian team. With his extended contract expiring, Rahul Dravid will leave the coach position after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
BCCI Contacts Gautam Gambhir
Earlier this week, Dravid communicated to the BCCI his decision not to seek another tenure. BCCI posted an advertisement last week, seeking applications for the position of India men’s head coach.
The job would be for all three formats for a duration of three and a half years starting from July 2024 until December 2027. Further discussions between Gambhir and BCCI will be done once KKR’s campaign is over.
Gautam Gambhir has no international coaching experience and has only been in charge of two IPL teams. He was the mentor for LSG in IPL 2022 and 2023 and guided them to the knockout stages both times.
Before IPL 2024, Shah Rukh Khan convinced Gambhir to coach Kolkata this season after some disastrous seasons. And he has completely changed the fate of Kolkata’s team.

Earlier in the weeks, there were also reports suggesting that BCCI is looking for a foreign coach this time. And CSK’s head coach, Stephen Fleming is on top of their radar. Sources also stated that BCCI and Fleming even had a talk about the job.
There will be various rumors before the position is finalized and we will see many reports like these. The last date to apply for the position is May 27, one day after the finals of IPL.
