BCCI: Mumbai has concluded the review meeting. Even though there were several conversations, BCCI just formally disclosed its strategies for managing injuries and workload. For the October 2023 World Cup, BCCI has chosen 20 players from a shortlist of 60. The NCA has been urged to collaborate with IPL teams on workload management in order for relief for the players, as per BCCI. A Dexa test must also be completed before any player rejoins Team India after a break due to injury, in addition to the Yo-Yo test. Additionally, in order to qualify for India selection, young players must play a significant number of domestic matches.
What issues were covered in the BCCI meeting?
In a statement, BCCI said “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday convened the review meeting of Team India (Senior Men) in Mumbai. The meeting was attended by BCCI President Mr Roger Binny, Honorary Secretary Mr Jay Shah, Indian Captain Mr Rohit Sharma, Team India (Senior Men) Head Coach Mr Rahul Dravid, Head of Cricket (NCA) Mr VVS Laxman and Chairman of Senior Men Selection Committee Mr Chetan Sharma.”
The conference also covered in-depth the schedule for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as well as the concerns of player availability, workload management, and fitness standards. Even though it was a T20 World Cup review conference, BCCI decided to concentrate on the ICC World Cup 2023 in October. The core group for the 35 ODIs in 2023 will consist of the 20 players that the Indian board has chosen for the World Cup.
Who attended the BCCI meeting?
Captain Rohit Sharma will be from the team’s side while coach Rahul Dravid and the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will represent the support staff side. Virat Kohli, a former captain, was also invited to the meeting but he is presently on vacation and won’t be present. Chetan Sharma, the departing head of the selection committee, has also been invited to the meeting.
“It was a very constructive and fruitful meeting where we have reviewed the past performance and planned for the future events, including World Cup and World Test Championship (WTC). We will give preference for international cricket while making sure the IPL is not diluted,” a BCCI official said.
