ODI World Cup 2023: The BCCI has declined another plea for modifying the World Cup schedule. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) sought to alter the dates due to consecutive matches assigned on October 9 and 10. However, the BCCI dismissed the appeal, citing the impracticality of implementing the change at this stage. The World Cup 2023 schedule has experienced substantial disruptions, resulting in the rescheduling of an impressive total of nine matches.
HCA expressed concerns on ODI World Cup 2023 schedule
The HCA expressed issues about the consecutive matches potentially disrupting security arrangements, particularly considering the participation of the Pakistan Cricket Team on October 10. This concern arises as Babar Azam’s team is set to take on Sri Lanka just one day after New Zealand competes against the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Initially slated for October 12, the latter match was rescheduled to October 11 to ensure ample recovery time for Pakistan following their face-off with India. It is noteworthy that Pakistan and the Netherlands are scheduled to play in Hyderabad on October 6. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) made this request less than a week before the commencement of ticket sales for the 50-over World Cup 2023.
However, the BCCI promptly dismissed the appeal, reasoning that it was too late to make adjustments to the World Cup schedule. It’s important to note that the Indian Cricket Board had already undergone significant modifications to the schedule after the initial release on June 27. On Monday, officials from the HCA engaged in in-depth discussions with BCCI CEO Hemang Amin to address the logistics. A key point of contention involves practice venues for both Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Given the back-to-back matches scheduled, these two teams will not have access to the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium for practice. Consequently, the HCA has made alternative arrangements at the Gymkhana ground.
