BCCI: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two of India’s most renowned players’ future in T20Is has now become utterly doubtful. The experienced duo have served as the mainstays of Indian cricket for more than a decade, but the BCCI, the nation’s cricketing authority, plans to introduce fresh players to the T20I format in anticipation of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies.
BCCI likely to talk to Virat – Rohit
Further information has been provided by sources, who claim that Hardik Pandya would be a key component of India’s T20I preparations and is likely to be named the long-term captain of the shortest format. According to reports, the newly formed BCCI selection committee, headed by Chetan Sharma, would likely consult with Virat and Rohit over their T20I future.
The famous duo has made themselves available to be selected in T20 Internationals, they noted. According to reports, “BCCI wants a young team under Hardik Pandya for T20Is.” There was ample reason to believe that Rohit’s reign as the T20I captain may be coming to an end when Hardik Pandya was named captain of the Indian T20I team for the just-completed three-match series against Sri Lanka. Virat, a former India captain, and Rohit were both included to the ODI team but not the T20I squad against Sri Lanka.
Virat Kohli – Rohit Sharma leading run scorers in T20I
In June 2007, Rohit made his debut for India. In September of that year, he played his maiden T20I. While Virat played his first T20I in June 2010, he made his senior international debut in an ODI match against Sri Lanka in August 2008. While both have served as India’s captain throughout T20 World Cups, none has been able to take home the iconic trophy.
With a total of 4008 runs scored in 115 matches at an average of 52.73, Virat tops the list of T20I run scorers. Second on that list is Rohit, who has scored 3853 runs in 148 games for an average of 31.32.
