BCCI: The Men in Blue’s jerseys could receive an update from the one that the squad currently wears, giving Indian supporters something to rejoice about. This is due to the fact that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is finally on the verge of signing a contract with a major apparel company to serve as the jersey sponsor for the Men in Blue after the Indian team’s contract with Nike had ended.
Adidas contract likely to begin from June
As per the sources, the BCCI and Adidas are reportedly close to agreeing on a sponsorship agreement for Team India’s official gear. According to the reports, the agreement would go into effect in June 2023 and last for 5 more years, ending in March 2028.
At the moment, Kewal Kiran Clothing Company, the parent business of Killer Jeans, holds the contract as the official clothing sponsor of Team India. With a five-month agreement that will terminate at the end of May 2023, the BCCI hired the company to serve as a temporary clothing sponsor for Rohit Sharma and company.
Earlier MPL withdrew the contract midway
The Indian team’s official kit sponsor, Mobile Premier League (MPL), dropped out of the agreement they had made when Nike’s contract as the official gear sponsor expired in November 2020. The BCCI and MPL agreed to an arrangement that was to continue until December 2023, with MPL paying INR 65 lakh each match and INR 3 crore annually as merchandising partner. The e-gaming platform, however, was unable to keep up with the agreement and withdrew, leading BCCI to enlist Killer Jeans in a temporary agreement.
Indian team is currently playing in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series. They defeated Aussies in the second test in Delhi and gained 2-0 lead. This also means that India will retain the BGT once again. Next match is scheduled to take place in Indore on 1st March.
