Berlin Marathon: Kenyan great player Eluid Kipchoge has beaten his own world marathon record by 30 seconds, running 2hr 01min 10sec in Berlin on Sunday. At the halfway point of the match the back-to-back Olympic champion looked set to become the first and official run under the elusive two-hour mark. But despite slowing his speed slightly, the 37-year-old held on to beat his own record from Berlin which he made in 2018.
Mark Korir came second, Tadu Abate came third
Kenyan Mark Korir finished second behind his countryman with the time of 2:05:58, while Tadu Abate from Ethiop came third with 2:06:28. Andamlak Belihu kept up with Kipchoge for around two thirds of the race, He held on for fourth. Kipchoge said that his goal was “to run a good race”, clearly aiming for world record and two-hour mark. Around seven runners were keeping up with Kipchoge for the first 10 KM, before 2021 winner Guye Adola and Belihiu pulled away after 15 KM. Adola was unable to maintain his pace and began to fall back, both Kipchoge and Belihu reached the half marathon mark in less than an hour.

Kenyan runner Kipchoge became just the second man to win four Berlin Marathons. He joined Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie who owned the marathon 2006 to 2009.
