Even after an impressive outing at the Paris Olympics 2024, Neeraj Chopra failed to defend his gold medal. He scored his season’s best and career’s second-best throw with 89.44 meters.
But it was only enough for silver as Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan broke the 18-year-old Olympic Record to clinch the gold medal. He broke the 90-meter barrier twice in one final and recorded his career-best throw at 92.97 meters.
That was too much even for Indian star Neeraj who has not yet broken the 90-meter barrier once. But according to Neeraj he was feeling positive throughout the match and was ready to break that record.
‘I Could Do It’
According to Neeraj, he was ready to break Nadeem’s record mentally but his injury stopped him from doing that. He pushed himself mentally till the end but it was not enough.
The 2021 Olympic Gold Medalist stated “I never thought I couldn’t do it. Arshad Nadeem’s previous best was at 90.18 metres which he threw at the Commonwealth Games, and my previous best was 89.94 metres.
I couldn’t push myself to my extreme. Mentally I was ready but physically, I was retraining myself. My legwork on the runway was not how it should have been. My efforts were going in vain. My throw immediately after Nadeem’s throw was good because I was extremely positive.”
Neeraj Chopra Missing!
On Independence Day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed every Indian athlete who went to the Paris Olympics. But notably, Neeraj Chopra was missing from the event and fans started wondering.
The Golden Boy of India has delayed his homecoming and has traveled to Germany to consult a doctor for his injury.
A family source stated Chopra has left for Germany and he will not return to India for another month and a half. I am not aware of much of the details, but for sure he will consult a doctor there.”
