India’s legendary spinner and former captain of the Indian cricket team Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on Monday morning, after which people from the cricket as well as the entertainment world remembered him and paid tribute. He has received tributes from actors Shah Rukh Khan, Suniel Shetty, and Sanjay Dutt. According to the news source PTI, he passed away at the age of 77 after a protracted illness. His wife Anju, son Angad Bedi, and daughter-in-law Neha Dhupia all survive the late athlete.

Shah Rukh Khan wrote, “Growing up our lives are moulded by the spirit, the gusto and sheer grace of people who we see and experience around us. Mr. #BishanSinghBedi was one of them. May God bless his soul & thank u Sir for teaching us so much about sports & life. You will be missed immensely. RIP.”
Suniel Shetty wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of the spin legend, Bishan Singh Bedi. A man who was adored not just for his cricketing prowess but also for the honesty and integrity he carried in his heart. He was a true maestro of the game and an inspiration to so many. May his legacy continue to inspire generations. Rest in peace, Bedi Sir.”
Sanjay Dutt wrote, “Cricket has lost a legend today, but the memories and moments created by Bishan Singh Bedi ji will live on forever. My thoughts are with his family and the entire cricketing community as we mourn this profound loss.”
Bishan Singh Bedi’s Life
He was born in 1946 in Amritsar and played 67 Test matches for India, taking 266 wickets, including 14 five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket haul. In 1990, he served for a brief period as the Indian cricket team’s manager during tours to New Zealand and England. After Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi retired, Bishan Singh Bedi, one of the most respected Indian captains, took over as the team’s leader for almost four years in Test matches between 1975 and 1979. From 1974 to 1982, he led the Delhi Ranji team as its captain the longest.
