BPL 2023: Former captain of the India U-19 team, Unmukt, has been selected by Chattogram Challengers in the players’ draft and will soon make history as the first Indian player to play in the Bangladesh Premier League.
On November 23, the veteran player signed a contract with the Challengers after entering his name in the players’ draught nearly a week earlier. He was the first Indian player to sign a deal for the BPL. The 29-year-old player, who is currently based in the United States, referred to the Bangladesh Premier League as one of the most well-known leagues in the world.
He was the first Indian player to compete in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) last season, playing for the Melbourne Renegades. His team, though, came in last place.
Played a match-winning knock in World Cup
Chand received the Player of the Match award in the finale match after he contributed to the India U-19 team’s victory at the U-19 World Cup in Australia in 2012 by scoring a century in the championship match. He was one of the best Indian talents at the time, and he even played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Delhi Capitals (formerly the Delhi Daredevils), but he didn’t do well.
In 2021, he moved to the United States to pursue a career in the sport after struggling to establish himself in India.
Unmukt Chand to play for Chattogram Challengers in BPL 2023
He will be looking to assist the Challengers, who finished third in the BPL standings last season with five victories in ten games, as they go all out for the championship. In addition to Ashan Priyanjan and Vishwa Fernando from Sri Lanka who were selected in the BPL 2023 player draft, they also signed Max O’Dowd from the Netherlands, Curtis Campher from Ireland, and Ashan O’Dowd from Bangladesh who play for the Challengers.
