Pakistan Govt confirms participation in ODI World Cup 2023

The Men In Green’s participation in the World Cup came under scrutiny, leading Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to create a committee headed by Bilawal Bhutto to deliberate and decide on the team’s involvement in the tournament.

Now, the Pakistan government has granted approval to the PCB for sending its team to India to participate in the World Cup. The foreign ministry emphasized in a statement that sports and politics should remain separate and distinct from each other.

The statement read, “Pakistan has consistently maintained that sports should not be mixed with politics. It has, therefore, decided to send its Cricket Team to India to participate in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Pakistan believes that the state of bilateral relations with India should not stand in the way of fulfilling its international sports-related obligations.”

According to reports, the decision to change the date of the IND vs PAK clash at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 was allegedly influenced by the Hindu festival of Navaratri. Concerns were raised by the local police regarding the provision of sufficient security on October 15, prompting the date change to October 14. However, Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), refuted these claims, asserting that the date alteration was requested by a few full member nations for their respective matches.
