Canada Open 2023: Lakshya Sen registered a comfortable victory against Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in straight sets to book his place into the Canada Open 2023 final. This will also result in Lakshya’s best-place finish this season.
On the other hand, PV Sindhu suffered another loss and was knocked out in the semi-final. Sindhu has failed to perform well for a long time. But after a long time, she looked like her previous self in this tournament. But her run was cut short as she failed to perform in the knockout stages.
Lakshya Sen Marches Into Final
Lakshya Sen defeated Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in straight sets. It was a formidable victory that showed how talented 21 year old really is. He has performed exceptionally well in this tournament and never looked troubled against his Japanese counterpart.
This is Sen’s first outing in a major final in almost a year. His last final appearance came in Commonwealth Games 2022 in England. This win also gave Sen a 2-1 lead head-to-head over the 11th world ranker.
Sen is currently 19th in the world ranking and will jump three ranks to World no 16 by reaching finals with 53501 points. If he wins the Canada Open he will jump to World Ranking 12 with 54901 points.
PV Sindhu Another Disappointment
The veteran Indian player suffered another loss in a major tournament. PV Sindhu lost to world no 1 Akane Yamaguchi in straight sets with a scoreline of 14-21, 15-21. This is Sindhu’s consecutive loss against the World Number 1 ranked.
Sindhu has not won a single tournament since her return from injury in January. She suffered an ankle injury last year after winning the Commonwealth Games 2022. Since then she has failed to make an impact in major competitions including the first-round exit in Singapore Open.
