Canada Open 2023: “Sometimes, the hardest battles lead to the sweetest victories.” These were the words of Lakshya Sen as soon as he clinched his first major title of the year. This victory was also his testament that he has arrived on the scene.
The 21-year-old completely dominated the reigning All-England champion Li Shifeng and defeated him in straight sets. He had the speed, the power, and the IQ to outclass the Chinese player completely in Canada Open 2023 final.
Lakshya’s biggest testament came when he was behind in the second set by 16-20. Everyone thought that the set was lost except one person, Lakshya himself. And he needed that only to make a comeback that will be remembered for a very long time.
An Emphatic Victory
Sen completely outclassed Li Shifeng in the first set which he won by 21-18. The Chinese star shuttler was giving Sen a tough competition but Sen never let the set go from his grasp.
The second set was where the problems started. The World No.10 had found Sen’s number and was pressing on that. And before anyone realized the score was 20-16 in favor of the Chinese star shuttler.
But another thing that no one realized was that Lakshya Sen was going to do something so astonishing that no one in the live crowd will forget that. Lakshya got consecutive 6 points without any break to complete a brilliant comeback and win the third set by 22-20.
“I Had To Dig Deep”
A tired and joyous fell to the ground as soon as he won the last point. Emotions overflowing from his face were evidence of what this victory meant to him. It was also a statement of what he had to survive to get to this stage.
“I had to dig deep in some matches, the conditions were different, and getting used to it was important.” The champion stated.
