Rohit Sharma: There is a growing belief among many that the senior players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, might no longer play in the shortest format of the game, considering the way they have been managed by the Indian selection panel regarding the T20I team. However, putting an end to the speculations, skipper Rohit Sharma have finally spoken up.
Senior Players Excluded from T20I Team
Following India’s exit at the T20 World Cup’s semifinal stage last year, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were promptly dropped from the T20I team. Initially, it seemed like they were being rested, but surprisingly, neither of them has made a T20I appearance since the World Cup. Currently, neither Rohit Sharma nor Kohli are in consideration for a comeback in the T20I squad.
Speculations suggest that the selectors have made a definitive choice to move forward without the senior players and are now giving opportunities to young talents ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. The forthcoming edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place in West Indies and the USA next year. Consequently, with Rohit Sharma’s absence, Hardik Pandya has been entrusted with leading the team in the shortest format.
Putting an end to speculations, Rohit Sharma has opened up about his exclusion from India’s T20I squad. During a recent event, the Test and ODI captain clarified that the primary reason for his absence in the T20I team is workload management. He emphasized that playing all formats, particularly with the impending ODI World Cup, is ‘not possible’ for some players.

What did Rohit Sharma say?
Rohit said, “At the moment I think it was made clear in the past that it’s a 50-over World Cup year for us. And for some of the guys, it’s not possible to play all formats. If you look at the schedule, there were back-to-back matches, so we decided on just looking at some players’ workload that we wanted to make sure that they get enough break time and manage them. I definitely fall in that (category) as well.”
Fans can look forward to the return of Rohit Sharma and other senior players to the T20I team once the ODI World Cup concludes. The upcoming World Cup is scheduled to be held next year in the Caribbean and the United States.
