Cheteshwar Pujara: Pujara is a different beast in County altogether, and he proved that yet again with a brilliant century in the ongoing Metro Bank One-Day Cup 2023. This was Sussex’s second match in the tournament.
Sussex traveled to Northamptonshire, Wantage Road, and Pujara stole the show. It was one of the best-paced inning you will ever see in One Day format. Pujara is known for his slow and steady knocks, so this century, with a strike rate of almost 90, was special.
The veteran Indian batsman was dropped from the test side after the World Test Championship finals against Australia. And since then, he has been proving himself. He was brilliant in the Duleep Trophy and now is back to his best for Sussex.
A Brilliant Century
Pujara played cautiously and wanted to take his inning as deep as possible. He scored 106 runs from 119 deliveries and was the only reason Sussex could reach a respectable score. As none other batsman was able to impress.
The match was cut short to 45 overs because of rain, and Sussex made 240/7 in the given overs. Pujara hit four boundaries and two sixes. The best part was that he hit only three boundaries in his first 80 deliveries.
Northamptonshire chased the target in 43 overs, with every batsman contributing something to the score. Prithvi Shaw scored quick 26 runs to give the hosts a perfect start, which benefitted every batsman that followed.
