Punjab Games: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated the second edition of the state-level “Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan” event and gave out more than Rs 5.94 crore to 1,807 athletes from Punjab who had won accolades between 2017 and 2022 at the state, national, and international levels. Their accounts received the money transfer.
International hockey players who were promised jobs in 2021 but weren’t honoured by the prior government would be offered suitable jobs, Mann said while speaking at the opening ceremony. “Two or three days” would pass before the decision was made.
He claimed that while there was a financial shortfall, there was actually bad intent when the hockey players were not honoured.
50 athletes selected to compete in the Asian Games will get 8 lakh
Additionally, he stated that each of the 50 athletes selected to compete in the Asian Games would receive an advance payment of Rs 8 lakh. This was solely done to aid in the players’ game preparation.
A cultural performance preceded the opening ceremony, which was conducted in the crowded Shaheed Bhagat Singh Multipurpose Stadium. The vocalists’ renditions of Punjabi classics served as the show’s defining feature. Children doing gatka and other historical martial arts were featured in the show.
As a general rule, work would be awarded to applicants based on merit, according to Mann. Nepotism used to exist in the past.
He addressed the kids in the stadium as their “chacha” (uncle). Mann assured them that there would be no nepotism in the hiring process and remarked, “Consider me you uncle or brother, whatever.”
