Commonwealth Games 2022: Virender Sehwag’s tweet came after India lost its match against Australia after a controversial point. The battle saw Australia edge India in shootout, 3-0 after the game remained level 1-1.
Umpire’s decision become a huge controversy when Australia missed the first penalty shot which was then retaken. Ambrosia Malone took the first hit but she was asked to take the shot again because of a shot-clock error. Malone converted her second attempt to make it 1-0.

“Penalty miss hua Australia se and the Umpire says, Sorry Clock start nahi hua. Such biasedness used to happen in cricket as well earlier till we became a superpower, Hockey mein bhi hum jald banenge and all clocks will start on time. Proud of our girls,” he wrote.
India didn’t get to score even a single shot and Australia won that match 3-0. India’s former men’s hockey team caption ‘Viren Rasquinha’ criticised the umpire’s decision.
“The world is watching. It puts the sport in a bad light if you are making such elementary errors. It was a very close match. Sometimes, some decisions are very close. Though it was bad for us, we will have to move on,” he said.
Savita Punia and head coach Janneke Schopman were too disappointed by the incident.

Tough to take, especially (after what happened) in the first stroke of the shootout. The Australian team is among the top teams and we trailed and then made it 1-1 and fought till the last minute,” said Punia.
Schopman also weighed in on the shootout incident. She said: “I don’t think even the officials understood what happened… it’s not an excuse but that didn’t help the team.”
Today’s India vs Australia Hockey match (semi-finals)
In today’s hockey match between India and Australia, India last the match against Australia. Australia takes the lead 3-0 as Navneet Kaur missed her 3rd attempt and India lost to play for the Gold medal run and will now play for the bronze medal match against New Zealand.
Today, India was to play against Australia, however, it lost at last scoring no points.
