Shubman Gill: The players of Team India were forced to leave empty-handed after India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final loss to Australia. They were also left without their WTC final match fee. In addition, Shubman Gill, a budding cricket star for India, had a 15% wage reduction as a result of his contentious dismissal. Shubman Gill was fined 115 percent for misbehaviour and interfering with the contentious catch made by Australian player Cameron Green, while the Indian players were penalised 100% of their test match costs. Gill received criticism for questioning the umpire’s judgement.
Australia Loses 80% of Match Fees
Despite winning the trophy in the WTC final, the Australian team also had 80 percent of their match play deducted for maintaining a slow over-rate against Team India and Shubman Gill. The Indian Cricket Council (ICC) made the following statement following the game: “It was confirmed shortly after the conclusion of the match on Sunday’s final day that India will lose all of their match fees for their slow over rate, with Australia also docked 80 percent of their match fees.” Shubman Gill, however, got into greater trouble than the other members of Team India when a fine equal to 11% of his total match cost was issued. It should be emphasised that the test match starting XI would be paid Rs. 15 lakh, while the backup players will be paid Rs. 7.5 lakh.
Shubman Gill Faces Rs 17.72 Lakh Penalty for Controversial WTC Final Incident
Shubman Gill will be required to pay a total punishment of Rs 17.72 lakh since he was a member of the playing XI during the test match between India and Australia; after deducting the test match money, the remaining Rs 2.25 lakh will come from his own pocket. The ICC criticised Gill after he complained on social media about Green’s catch, which the third umpire had declared a clean “Out,” claiming that the ball had touched the ground as the Australian player caught it.
