Steyn’s 10-wicket haul was a watershed moment in his career. It established him as one of the world’s leading fast bowlers and helped to propel South Africa to the top of the Test rankings. Steyn bowled with pace, accuracy, and swing. He was able to get the ball to move both ways, making it very difficult for the Australian batsmen to score runs. He was also able to get the ball to bounce sharply, which accounted for several of his wickets.
Steyn’s first wicket came in the 12th over, when he bowled Simon Katich for 28. He then dismissed Michael Hussey for 14, Ricky Ponting for 41, and Andrew Symonds for 23. In the middle session, Steyn took the wickets of Brad Haddin for 21 and Brett Lee for 1. He then finished off the innings by dismissing Nathan Hauritz for 0 and Peter Siddle for 2.
In the second innings, Steyn continued to bowl with pace and accuracy. He dismissed Matthew Hayden for 10, Shane Watson for 1, and Michael Clarke for 10. He then finished off the innings by dismissing Mitchell Johnson for 1 and Stuart MacGill for 0.
Steyn’s performance was a major blow to Australia, who were at the time the number one Test team in the world. They had not lost a Test series at home since 2005, and they were hoping to continue their dominance in front of their home fans. However, Steyn’s bowling was simply too good, and Australia were bowled out for a relatively low score in both innings.
