Cricket Viral Video: Shai Hope achieved his first-ever T20 century in a CPL 2023 match between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Royals on September 17, notably by hitting Rahkeem Cornwall for an astounding 32 runs in a single over.
Shai Hope’s ruthless batting
Sent into bat by the Royals, Guyana initiated their innings briskly, thanks to the impressive performances of Saim Ayub and the elevated opener, Odean Smith. Shai Hope joined the batting at No.3 when the score stood at 35. Hope’s aggressive approach saw him strike three fours and a six within his first eight deliveries, swiftly scoring 26 runs. His remarkable fifty, which marked his fifth in the current CPL season, was achieved in the 11th over, taking only 23 balls to reach.
As the 15th over concluded, the Warriors stood at 153-2, with Shai Hope holding a formidable score of 69 from 35 deliveries. Rahkeem Cornwall, having maintained a relatively economical spell with figures of 0-23 off his initial three overs, was entrusted with the final over of his spell. What transpired next was an absolute onslaught. Hope began by sending the first ball from outside the off-stump towards the long-on boundary for a four. Subsequently, he sent each of the following three deliveries soaring over the mid-wicket fence. Two of these were off short deliveries outside off, while the third was a result of a fuller delivery on the leg side.
In an attempt to correct his line, Cornwall unintentionally delivered another half-tracker, this time straying dangerously close to the wide line. Shai Hope swiftly adjusted his position, executing a front-square cut for yet another four. Cornwall’s response was a high full toss aimed at the leg side, and Hope capitalized on it by smashing it over the leg side for his fourth six of the over, securing his maiden T20 century.
