With India needing 24 runs to avoid the follow-on imposed by England, Kapil Dev, batting alongside a No.11 batsman, decided to launch a daring assault. In a stunning display of power-hitting, the right-handed batsman targeted Eddie Hemmings and smashed him for four consecutive sixes towards the long-on region.
Dev’s aggressive approach transformed his score from 53* to an impressive 77*, ultimately rescuing India from the embarrassment of batting again. Notably, this extraordinary feat etched its place in Test cricket history as it marked the first instance where a batsman hit four consecutive sixes in the format.
