Gurbaz hits four boundaries
During his remarkable innings of 151 runs from 151 balls on August 24th, Gurbaz achieved the distinction of becoming the third-quickest batsman in the annals of ODI cricket to amass five centuries. Throughout his innings, he skillfully showed a comprehensive array of shots and adeptly adjusted his approach to the match’s circumstances.
Gurbaz achieved his century in the 35th over, taking 123 deliveries to do so, and then proceeded to launch into an aggressive phase. Subsequently, it was Haris Rauf who experienced the force of Gurbaz’s exceptional skill and creativity. In the 37th over, Gurbaz skillfully dispatched four successive deliveries to the boundary, showcasing a diverse range of shots that highlighted his prowess and innovation.
On the first delivery, Gurbaz impeccably executed a scoop shot over the fielder at short fine leg, even though the ball was pitched well outside the off-stump. Following that, he elegantly chipped the next ball over mid-wicket, resulting in another four runs. The third delivery was confidently pulled in a direction that placed it just ahead of square. To complete the sequence, Gurbaz intentionally guided the fourth ball past the fielder stationed at short third man, securing yet another boundary.

The tables had turned dramatically for Rauf, who had achieved his inaugural five-wicket haul in the previous ODI match. However, in this encounter, he found himself on the receiving end of Gurbaz’s exceptional performance. Gurbaz’s innings eventually came to an end in the 45th over, dismissed by Afridi, but not before he had propelled Afghanistan to a commanding position. Gurbaz’s innings concluded at 151 runs, marking Afghanistan’s inaugural ODI century against Pakistan.
