Cricket Viral Video: In the middle of a Test match against England in Perth in 1979, Australian fast bowling star Dennis Lillee opted to go to the field carrying an aluminium bat. Despite not being a particularly good batter, Dennis Lillee nevertheless managed to make headlines with his bat—or, to be more exact, the willow of his bat.
Denis Lillee walks in with controversial bat
Greg Chappell, the then-captain of Australia, was unconcerned when he saw Lillee waving the metal bat in the nets the next morning. By batting as long as possible, it was intended to irritate the English players. If Lillee wanted the bat to be seen on national television, the captain might relax the rules for his best fast bowler. Although it upset everyone in the nets, the bat’s clunk-clunk sound could be put up with for a while.
The aluminium bat immediately began to play some stuff as the English bowlers were being struck for a boundaries. The Ashes test’s biggest attraction was Lillee’s renowned cover drive with the bat. Angered by all he saw, the England captain immediately complained to the umpires. The bat from Lillee was a topic of discussion between the umpires Max O Connell and Doug Weser.

Lillee was further asked by the umpires to stop using the bat. On the cricket pitch, Lillee mocked at the decision and appeared furious. He flung the bat in the air wildly out of rage. Tony Greig and Tony Cozier, two commentators at the time, referred to Lillee’s actions as violent and disgusting. A year later in 1980, it was made mandatory that batsman will use bat made only of wood.
On the field, Dennis Lillee was well-known for being a fierce opponent who occasionally lost his cool. One of the most widely discussed scandals at the time included his fights with former Pakistani players Javed Miandad and Imran Khan.
