Ben Foakes steals the show with catch
With Surrey leading the Division One standing after three games, they faced Essex in a crucial clash at Chelmsford. Essex, sitting just twelve points and three places behind Surrey, won the toss and elected to bat first. The Surrey team, boosted by the return of Will Jacks, took to the field.
Essex got off to a confident start as Alastair Cook and Nick Browne forged a solid partnership, adding 62 runs for the first wicket. However, Browne was caught in the cordon off Gus Atkinson’s second delivery of the match. Cook, who displayed brisk innings and scored 51 runs, was dismissed 10 overs later, also falling victim to Gus Atkinson’s bowling.
The talented young seamer executed a brilliant plan against the former England captain. He cleverly lured Cook by delivering one ball away from him and then followed it up by seaming the next delivery into Cook. This resulted in him getting an inside edge, which was brilliantly caught by Ben Foakes behind the stumps.
