Cricket Viral Video: In a 1997 Test match between Pakistan and South Africa, a bizarre incident occurred when a ball from Mushtaq Ahmed went through the stumps without displacing the bails. The unusual incident happened during the first innings of the third Test of the series at Faisalbad.
Ball fails to dislodge bails
A flipper from Mushtaq struck Pat Symcox of South Africa end-to-end, but the No. 9 was miraculously saved when the ball sailed between the off and middle stumps.
Even while the event isn’t entirely unknown, this footage, which appears to be from the early coverage, offers several perspectives and shows that even the commentators were initially perplexed by what had happened. Commentator Henry said, “Well that was a quicker one and Symcox making a little bit of room for himself. “And I daresay he got a little edge onto his pad otherwise we would have had a very loud appeal.”
Another commentator Geoffrey said, “It went through the stumps! I thought he was bowled myself, and then when he didn’t go, Henry said it must have hit the bat onto the pad, but it went straight through the stumps. Can you believe it? I’ve never seen that. I have never seen that before. I’ve seen a lot of cricket around the world, but there’s always something new you can learn.”

The big break ultimately proved crucial in deciding the outcome of the series. Pakistan took control of the match by reducing the Proteas to 98-7 when the third Test began with the series tied at 0-0. When Symcox was granted a respite, he rebuilt with Gary Kirsten, who continued to bat for 100 runs without being out, and they had raised the total to 194. The final score for South Africa was 239, and despite Pakistan taking a sizable lead and bowling out the hosts for 92 in the fourth innings, the tourists won by an exciting margin of 53 runs.
