Cricket Viral Video: With the 2008 U19 World Cup, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson rose to prominence. What may be less well-known is a rare bowler versus batsman matchup between the two, in which Kohli’s soft medium-pace defeated Williamson in the semifinal.
Virat Kohli has become a more respected hitter with time, but his bowling contributions have substantially decreased. However, his occasional bowling—which was characterised by an unnatural hop and a stiff release—would frequently be heard throughout the early stages of his career.
Virat Kohli dismisses Kane Williamson
Two of Kohli’s four wickets at the 2008 U19 World Cup’s six games came against New Zealand in the semi-final. As the 20th over began, New Zealand’s score stood at 57-2 with their captain, Williamson, at the crease. India’s captain, Kohli, was brought in as the sixth bowler. In his fourth over, Kohli delivered a well-placed angle ball from outside the crease, causing Williamson to make a move to flick the ball away.
The wicketkeeper, Shreevats Goswami, quickly reacted by sliding over and snatching the ball, proceeding to remove the bails before Williamson could return to the crease. Despite an initial call of a wide ball, Kohli’s efforts were ultimately successful as Williamson was declared out by the third umpire.

After one over, he was back in action, sending Fraser Colson back with a length ball that skidded in and advanced his off-stump. With Kohli playing a critical 43 at No. 4, India was able to defeat the target thanks to the seven key overs that helped limit New Zealand to 205-8.
