The incident drew widespread criticism as it was deemed unnecessary by many observers.

Shaheen Afridi’s unnecessary throw
Having dismissed opener Saif Hassan in the very first over, Afridi took charge of the third over but faced an unexpected setback when Hossain struck a six off his second delivery. In response, Hossain sent the ball back to Afridi.
Although Hossain had not moved from his position at the crease, Afridi’s throw unintentionally struck Hossain’s foot as he attempted to evade it. Writhing in pain, Hossain collapsed to the ground, prompting the Pakistani players to gather around him, displaying their concern. Shaheen Afridi himself approached Hossain and gently placed his hand on his helmet to assess his condition. Fortunately, after receiving medical attention from the team physio, Hossain was given the green light to continue participating in the match.

Cricket Australia has recently handed James Pattinson a one-match suspension following an altercation that occurred during a Sheffield Shield game. Pattinson faced accusations of intentionally throwing the ball at Daniel Hughes. Along with the suspension, he was fined his entire match fee. Interestingly, this incident bears resemblance to Shaheen Afridi’s aforementioned situation, as both bowlers struck a batsman at the crease with a throw to the foot.
